King Philip also made nearby Mount Hope (Montaup) his base of operations. "King Philip's Chair," a rocky ledge on the mountain, was a lookout site for enemy ships on Mount Hope Bay. The site was also used by the Chief Sachem to communicate with his tribe which was spread throughout southern New England. After that war concluded, the town was settled in 1680 as part of the Plymouth Colony. It remained a part of Massachusetts until the Crown transferred it to the Rhode Island Colony in 1747.

Part of Mount Hope Farm's history includes the Native Americans. Some of the acreage includes Mount Hope, which was the headquarters of King Philip. There are variations of the name including the one chosen.

The room is small but comfortable. It has a private bath and is air-conditioned. The previous owners used the room for the "nanny."
