Born in Bristol, Bristol County, R.I., March 18, 1764. Son-in-law of William Bradford; grandfather of James Dewolfe Perry; great-granduncle of LeBaron Bradford Colt. Democrat. Slave trader; manufacturer; member of Rhode Island state legislature; Speaker of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives, 1819-21; U.S. Senator from Rhode Island, 1821-27. Died in New York , New York County, N.Y., December 21, 1837. Interment at De Wolf Family Cemetery, Bristol , R.I.

 
Governor Bradford House
 

The Dewolfe room is named after Captain James Dewolfe. Upon the death of Governor William Bradford, the property passed to his daughter Nancy, wife of James Dewolfe, youngest son of Mark Anthony Dewolfe, the founder of the Dewolfe dynasty. A very comfortable room, the guest room offers several interesting views of the farm.
