Samuel Wardwell Church; Born February 13, 1803, Died March 27, 1881.  In 1828 with Thomas J. Coggeshall he began business under the name of Church & Coggeshall., building up a very extensive gtain and flour trade.  In retiring in 1837, he bought the Mount Hope or Bradford farm of about 350 acres and lived there until 1854 when he removed to the old homestead , Papposequaw.  A Representative in the General Assembly 1859-1861.  State Senator 1861-1869.  Original member of the Board of State Charaties.  President for nearly twenty years of Freeman's Bank of Bristol and of its successor, the First National Bank until 1875.  He obtained the Charter for the Narragansett Steamship Co. and was instrumentmental in placing the well known Sound boats Providence and Bristol on the New York, Fall Reiver and Boston route.

The Church room is named after a wealthy Taunton and Bristol Merchant and was purchased by him in 1837. One of the favorite rooms in the house, it offers a cross breeze from its windows overlooking North and South Pastures.

The spacious room is air-conditioned, has a working fireplace, and a private bath.
